The Dos and Don’ts of Bedroom Design

Furniture for Chattanooga Bedrooms

Let’s talk about bedroom design. Since this is the place where you begin and end your day it’s so important to get it right. When these elements come together it creates a space where you can rest and recharge in order to be prepared for all of life’s demands. We’ve put together a list of bedroom design Dos and Don’ts so that you can make the most of this space by deciding what’s working for you and what isn’t.

DO make it a clutter-free zone. It’s not easy to relax in a cluttered space so you shouldn’t over-accessorize. Try to keep nightstands and other surfaces free of unnecessary items.

DON’T use this as a space to experiment with your style every time a new trend pops up on Pinterest. If there’s too much going on in one space it can create sensory overload making it difficult for your brain to prepare for sleep.

DON’T skimp on bedding. Luxury linens are a great investment because they create a spa-like feel in your bedroom. Plus, high-quality bedding will far outlast cheaper options and give your bedroom a designer look.

DO invest in a high-quality mattress as well. This may be the most important “do” of all. If you don’t sleep well you’ll never appreciate a well-designed bedroom.

DO install the right window treatments. If you’re a light sleeper then consider shades or curtains that will block the light when necessary but allow it to shine through when you need a boost of sunshine.

DON’T rely on a single overhead light. Place lamps on nightstands or install sconce lights on either side of the bed. This provides a soft light for reading and creates a more relaxed vibe.

DON’T overcrowd the room with furniture. You should be able to easily walk through the space and around the bed. If storage is an issue then consider a bed that features built-in drawers. This will allow you to sneak in a little extra storage and free up some space in the room.

DO choose pieces with the right scale. For example, in a bedroom with high ceilings a tall headboard is a smart choice.

You can easily correct these Don’ts to Dos and turn your bedroom into the one you’ve always wanted. If you still can’t get it right, or you simply want a new look in the space, then meet with one of our designers to stark making a plan for your bedroom today.
