Five Ways to Work a Sectional

What is it about a sectional that's so appealing? For one, there are so many options. Many sectionals are available with custom options to suit your needs. Second, it's a cozy and comfortable option for a family room. Third, it's an easy way to furnish a space. But there's more than one way to work a sectional. So we've put together a list of what we believe are the top five ways to use a sectional.

The most common way to use a sectional is the basic “L” shape. This typically consists of one corner with two seats on either side. This layout tends to fit most living areas and often leaves enough space for an accent chair, depending on the size of the room. Pair it with a pretty swivel chair to make the space even more functional.

A small sectional, such as a sofa with a chaise, is often a popular choice for smaller spaces such as an apartment. If you have a small living room but have always dreamed of having a sectional this is a smart solution. Opt for pieces with clean lines to keep from overwhelming the space.

A large piece, such as a conversation style sectional, is one way to ground a large living room. Its curvy style creates a pretty and unique look while maximizing seating in the space. These sectionals often work well in large rectangular spaces or homes with an open floor plan.

Go for all-out comfort with a reclining sectional. Power reclining footrests, power adjustable headrests and built-in USB ports make this option perfect for a man-cave or a family TV room. When every seat is a recliner everyone gets the best seat in the house.

Shake up your dining space with sectional style seating. Fabric in a dining space always softens the overall look and banquette style seating creates a cozy and intimate atmosphere.

With so many custom options there is always a way to make a sectional work. If you need help choosing the right style, remember, you don't have to go it alone. Just visit our design center to get started.

There are so many great reasons to use a sectional. More than just a pretty piece of furniture, it can actually solve many design dilemmas. A sectional can be used to make a small space look bigger. In a small living room don't make the mistake of using a collection of small pieces. This will only lead to a cluttered feel making the space feel even more closed in. Instead, make better use of the space with a small sectional and an upholstered cocktail ottoman to create a cozy and functional living room.

A sectional can define a space. When furnishing a home with an open floor plan this is a smart way to create the feel of a room even without walls. A properly placed sectional will also create walkways in a home with an open concept.

A sectional is a great way to maximize seating which makes it ideal for those who like to entertain. Center the sectional on the focal point in the space and add as much length to the sectional as space will allow while keeping pathways clear. This creates the perfect setup for hosting a party with room for everyone.

It's a stylish way to lounge. Recliners, while comfortable, aren't always the first choice for more modern homes. A sectional with a chaise is a modern approach to adding a lounge chair to a living room. Pair it with a funky chair and bold artwork for more interest.

If you've always wanted a sectional but thought it just wouldn't work in your space, think again. It may actually be the answer to your decorating problems. Visit our showroom to work with a designer on choosing the right way to use a sectional in your home.

Tips for Choosing a Sectional

Tips for Choosing a Sectional

A sectional is a great option in a living area for so many reasons. It provides a lot of seating, it creates definition of the space, and it can be customized to suit the space and layout of the room. There are however many factors to consider before you purchase a sectional. It isn’t complicated, it’s just a matter of understanding a few key factors about your space and how you’re going to use it. So before you go out and buy that new sectional, you should know how to answer these questions.

It’s always important to know the size of a space. In order to decide how big the sectional should be, you have to know how much room you’re working with. Know the length of each wall as well as the size of doorways and windows. Don’t forget architectural elements such as a staircase or fireplace. If you don’t have a wall long enough to accommodate a sectional then consider floating it out in the room. This will create “zones” and walkways in the space.

Sectionals work even in small spaces but there’s no reason to place a large, oversized sectional in a space that doesn’t need a lot of seating. A keeping room or a second living area that isn’t used as often might only require a small sectional and a chair or two.

Knowing how the space will function makes all the difference in knowing what type of sectional you should use. In a casual space such as a game room or movie room you can go with a more relaxed look. A reclining sectional complete with cup holders will give you a real movie theater experience even at home.

Think about how often you’ve made changes in your home in the last few years. Do you rearrange the furniture a lot? Add and remove items often? Sectionals aren’t quite as versatile as a sofa and a couple of chairs. However, if a sectional is something you’ve always wanted and it makes the space more functional, then you may not feel the need to keep making changes.

Choose a style that works with the overall look of your home. In a more modern home with clean lines and contemporary textures such as brushed nickel or stainless steel, choose something sleek and tailored like this one that has high legs and a little bit of curves. In a more casual space with a traditional look you could opt for something with a skirt or even with built in recliners.

Following these tips will help you choose a sectional that will work with your home and function well for you and your family. However, you never have to go it alone! All you have to do is visit our design center and we’ll help you every step of the way.
