5 Elements of a Restful Bedroom

Our lives are busier than ever and getting rest is so important. Everyone deserves a beautiful space where they can relax and sleep well. But it should be more than just beautiful. It should be a place where it’s easy for you to rest. Your bedroom should be a calming place where you can wind down, feel relaxed, and get the good night’s sleep you deserve. These are the five elements that we believe every bedroom should have to make it a restful space.

restful bedroom 1

Symmetry brings order to a space. When things are orderly you instantly feel more relaxed and will naturally sleep better. Bring symmetry to your bedroom with a pair of matching nightstands topped with matching lamps. Take the look even further with matching artwork flanking the bed above the nightstands.

restful bedroom 2

You should have something at the foot of the bed. An ottoman or a bench provides a place to drop an extra blanket you can easily grab in the middle of the night when you get cold. An ottoman with storage also helps to keep the space clutter free.

restful bedroom 3

The right window treatments might be one of the most important elements of a restful bedroom. Curtains or shades should have the ability to block out light at night and easily be adjusted to let light pour in when you wake up. Shades or panels should have a blackout lining to allow for restful sleep.

restful bedroom 4

Invest in a high quality mattress such as Jamison. This makes all the difference in not only how you sleep at night but also how you feel in the morning, which sets the tone for your whole day. But don’t stop there. Top the mattress with a well-made set of bedding and high quality pillows. You will melt into your bed at night when it is as comfortable as it is beautiful.

restful bedroom 5

Placing the right lighting in the room is just as important as blocking it out. Choose three-way lamps for the nightstands to allow for soft light to read by at night. When purchasing bedroom furniture, look for nightstands with built-in nightlights like these from Kincaid. They provide a soft light at the bottom of the piece that will allow you to get up in the middle of the night without turning on a bright, jarring light.

Which of these elements is your bedroom missing? We want to help you make your bedroom the restful space you deserve. Visit our showroom where we can help you choose the right mattress and design your beautiful and restful space.

Add Personality to a Neutral Bedroom

Neutral spaces are on trend in a big way, especially in bedrooms. When done the right way, they can have just as much impact as spaces filled with color and pattern. But if your neutral bedroom is leaving you feeling less than inspired, that could mean it needs a finishing touch. It’s easy to add personality to a neutral bedroom with just one or two pieces. Here are four easy ways to take your neutral bedroom to the next level.

neutralpop1

mirror / bedroom

Who says you have to use the mirror that matches the dresser? Create a custom look by opting for a unique decorative mirror. This is such as easy way to add some style to the space. For a more traditional feel, match the mirror’s frame to the hardware, or for a more modern look, introduce another metallic to the room in a contrasting finish.

neutralpop2

artwork / bedroom

An interesting piece of artwork can completely change the look and feel of a room, especially one that’s layered in neutrals. This mirrored map isn’t a piece you would typically see in a bedroom, which is what makes it work so well. Think beyond the norm and go for a large-scale piece that has graphic punch.

neutralpop3

lamp / bedroom

Adding gold accessories to grey walls or furniture instantly warms up the space. It also adds a modern element to this rustic look. Polished gold pieces add a sophisticated flair, and in this space it’s the perfect contrast.

neutralpop4

rug / bedroom

An area rug in a rich color adds drama and a designer look to a neutral bedroom. Go for a wow factor with a bold color and a vintage inspired look. Choose a plush texture to give the space a luxurious feel.

Is your neutral bedroom looking a little tired? Bring it back to life with one of these easy updates! Visit our showroom where you’ll find lots of inspiration for adding personality to your neutral spaces.

If you’re looking for a way to add instant character to your home, then consider incorporating an industrial piece. Industrial style furniture is typically made with a mix of metal and wood. While these pieces are usually heavily distressed, they still have a modern vibe. Distressed wood, hammered steel, and aged metal are all characteristics of rustic industrial style. Typically, these pieces have a lot of variation in the wood tones. This makes it very easy to mix with other wood finishes. Here are five ways to add industrial style to your home.

Rethink your accessories. Many small items, such as candle holders or lamps, are just enough to bring some industrial style to your space. Just keep it simple. When it comes to smaller items, use less but think big. Use large scale accessories to keep the look clean and uncluttered.

Work your leather. Industrial pieces work really well with leather. The layering of textures in a space make it more interesting. Replace your coffee table with a statement piece that features heavily distressed wood and cool accents like wheels or large bolts.

Try a new TV console. The television is often the focal point of the family room so it should definitely be housed by a nice piece of furniture. Take this as your opportunity to incorporate an industrial piece. Whether it’s a complete wall unit or a simple console it will anchor the wall with style.

Switch out your bed. Your bedroom pieces don’t all have to be the same. Replace your bed with something that incorporates the features of an industrial style piece. As long as it mixes metal and wood it should work. Just be sure the wood tones blend with the other pieces you’re using in order to have a cohesive look.

Start small. Test the look in your home with an accent table. Something small and round should fit just about anywhere. Place it near a sofa as an extra spot to place a drink, next to a bed where you can’t fit a nightstand, or even next to the tub in a bathroom. Accent pieces are great for adding personality and functionality to a space.

There are so many ways to add industrial style to your space. You can carry the look throughout your entire home or you can simply add small touches in a few spaces. Visit our showroom and talk to one of our designers for more ideas on how you can get this look.

Five Ways to Organize with Style

interior decorating Chattanooga

storage bed / box / file cabinet / ottoman / chest

Getting organized at home is a popular new year’s resolution. When your home is organized and things are easy to find, it just makes life a little better. We believe getting organized is just as much fun as decorating when you use the right pieces. These are five of our favorite ways to organize with style.

  1. A bed with built in storage is a lifesaver is a small bedroom. It makes great use of the space underneath and is the perfect place to store extra bedding or clothes. Many beds even offer built in drawers on the sides, allowing for more storage.
  2. Pretty boxes and containers are always stylish and smart. Not only do they store small items that can make a space look cluttered but they are perfect for styling with other pieces. Mix them into a bookshelf with books and other decorative items or simply place them on top of a dresser or coffee table. They’re also a great solution for storing photographs if you don’t have a place to keep albums.
  3. Wood file cabinets blend right in with other pieces of furniture. Many lateral file cabinets can double as a nightstand. This is a stylish way to keep your important documents within reach if you don’t have the space for a home office.
  4. Storage ottomans are always a go-to when you need stylish storage because they’re available in endless fabrics and styles and they’re also super functional. Not only can items such as books, magazines, and toys be stored away and out of sight but they also serve as footrests and extra seating and are easily moved around as needed.
  5. If you’re trying to save space while getting organized then consider a piece like this door chest. Taller than a dresser, but not as wide, it makes use of vertical wall space saving room for other pieces. It also features trays behind doors, small cubbies and a drop-front drawer that allows you to use electronic components.

Make this the year you finally get organized! We have so many more options for stylish and functional pieces that will get your home in order in no time. Come by our showroom to find what works for you.
